Experience
I have successfully completed the necessary course work for Secondary Mathematics Education at the State University of New York College at Oneonta. Through my experiences thus far, I have gotten the opportunity to work with several people ranging from students and faculty to parents and the community. In doing so, I have acquired and bettered time management skills, communication skills, public speaking, and organization tactics. Throughout student teaching experience, I have gotten the opportunity to teach in many different classroom settings, varying from inclusion integrated algebra courses to seventh grade honors classes. With such differences, I learned how to adapt my teaching strategies to the needs of all learning styles. Through my other experiences, such as tutoring at Job Corps, a vocational training program for disadvantaged youth, and assisting special needs children with therapeutic horseback riding, I have found innovative ways to motivate and encourage students. In the past, I have improved my teaching experience in a number of ways, both inside and outside the classroom setting. Outside of college, I took it upon myself to tutor struggling adolescents in the area of mathematics. In doing so, I have been able to familiarize myself with ways to manage student behavior and to promote student learning. I have found that keeping my students interested and engaged was the key to their successes. Through out many summers, starting from when I was a junior in high school, I have had the opportunity to become a camp counselor in both soccer and track. During these camps, I instructed groups of about twenty children ranging in ages 5-13. I planned and monitored all activities, as well as taught them responsibility, skills, communication, and leadership. I am a devoted individual who will use my skills and passion to help each and every one of my students see their potential not only as students but also as individuals. Together, my students and I will learn, grow, and succeed by incorporating real world mathematics with the goal of making math meaningful.
